The Story of Flim: An Odyssey Episode 2

I was able to watch the second episode of The Story of Film: An Odyssey and was once again amazed at how much film has influenced America. This episdoe talked mostly about Hollywood films and how they evolved. its so interesting how each movie infuences the next and so on and so on. The film discussed different directors and their styles of films from horror to romatic comedies. also, it extended on the different techniques that were developing during this time. I truely enjoy watching and learning from this film and hopefully it will influence me and my art form.

The Story of Flim: An Odyssey Episode 1 review

Recently, we watched a documentary about the history of film called The Story of Film: An Odyssey. It really opened my eyes, how every art form has a history that has shaped it into what we now know. The film talked about Auguste and Louis Lumiere and how they were one of the earliest film makers in history, along with Thomas Edison. While the Lumiere brothers operated from France, Edison had his work in the United States. The film also informed the different techniques to film making, one being the Ghost Ride. This is where the director makes the audience feel like they are apart of the film speeding through or traveling along in the movie. I found this documentary very interesting as well as informitive and i hope to continue to watch it.

Between the Folds

Between the Folds
I recently watched Between the Folds, a documentary by Vanessa Gould on Origami. It wasn't about your typical swan folding or box making, it was much more than that. It followed several different people coming from different back rounds, an architect, an artists, an engineer, all creating different ways to fold paper. there is so much more to origami than meets the eye. It is a series of folding and refolding in a particular manner, or free handing it to create some sort of design or pattern. The way their minds process the paper and see the different ways of folding reminds me some what of what a choreographer does while creating a piece. They both see all the different paths they could take, whether it be simple or complex, geometric or organic. They also enjoy the process of getting to the finished product as much as the final creation. This film was truly interesting and opened my mind to a whole new form of creativity and expression.
